It's Your Mission
Written By Sherry Brandon

CAST:
Casey: willing missionary
Beverly: church secretary
Dan: family man
Gina: teenager
John: businessman

(The five actors are standing in a line at different angles with Casey in the middle. All five are speaking to God.)

CASEY: Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved…Lord, I feel that you have given me a call for missions and I am willing to go wherever you lead me.

BEVERLY: Yes Lord...I have felt a burden for missions, but I just don't know how to follow your call. Well, you know…working here in your house gives me plenty of opportunity to share your message with others, doesn't it? Like when I organized that banquet for the homeless…and the underprivileged children's toy drive?

DAN: Of course I know missions is important, Lord…but I have my family to consider. I can't just pack up my wife and children and haul them all over the world, can I? I have to think about their feelings on the matter, not just mine.

GINA: I'm about to graduate from high school, and I don't wanna leave my friends and family and run off to some strange country where I don't know anybody…to leave my life right when it's about to begin.

JOHN: You know my time is very limited...I have appointments to make and clients to meet with. We are on the verge of one of the biggest deals this company has ever had. I just don't have the time to worry about missions right now.

CASEY: I know that the most important thing we can do is to spread your message around the world…to be witnesses unto you and spread the good news of Jesus Christ.

BEVERLY: No one would speak our language...and I hate trying to learn other languages. What if I say something wrong and some "medicine man" thinks I've proposed marriage to him or something?

DAN: I realize there are many families in countries in all over the world, but that would mean I'd have to take the kids out of their school and bring them into a strange new school and new environment...and how would my wife adapt? I wouldn't want anything to hurt our marriage.

GINA: And golly...what if there's no place to plug in a hair dryer or wash my hair…and they like wear really weird stuff overseas you know, and...(pause)…oh Lord, I just don't want to be all alone!

JOHN: Hey, I'm a good witness--everyone at the office knows I go to church, and ...(pause)...and I use Cross pens on business trips!

CASEY: Lord, you are my shepherd and I shall not want for anything. I only hear your voice and not the voice of a stranger.

BEVERLY: The food overseas is terrible--how do we know what is safe to eat or drink...(pause)...and what if some tribal pygmy throws me over his shoulder and runs off with me and I'm never seen or heard from again!!

DAN: I don't want to put my family in any danger from crime or weather..(pause)...and Lord, you know how much I hate flying!

GINA: Father, I don't really feel worthy or able to be a good messenger...your message would be better off given by someone more capable than me. (hangs head)

JOHN: What if I were gone on a crusade and something happens at the office and no one can reach me and we lose the biggest deal of the year!

CASEY: Lord I know that you have given me the power to tread over all of the power of the enemy, and nothing can harm me. All of my needs are met in Christ Jesus.

BEVERLY: I can't even seem to make ends meet sometimes, Lord. How can I afford a missions trip when my supper very often consists of peanut butter and popcorn?

DAN: Supporting my family is the most important thing to me, Lord. How would I manage a missions dream financially...we have a tight budget?

GINA: I'm really just a kid, Lord. With my allowance, I'd have to stow away on a shrimp boat to go anywhere.

JOHN: All of my money is invested...it would just be too big of a risk to take it out now. I'll consider it at a later date, I promise.

CASEY: Lord I cast all of my cares on you, for I know that you care for me and you will guide me in the plan you have for my life. I trust you with all of my heart and I do not lean on my own understanding.

BEVERLY: Well, you know I really do love to meet new people, and I am a pretty good teacher...and goodness there could be dozens of potential eligible bachelors, I mean Christians out there! No, but really...I want to serve you and the call you have placed on my life. I'm sorry for not listening sooner.

DAN: I guess I should let my family have a say in a decision like this instead of my speaking for them. I admit I have been selfish and haven't really considered their feelings at all.

GINA: I'm not really alone. All of the kids in the church my age are just thrilled at the chance to go on a missions trip. I'll bet it would really be fun...I'm sorry for doubting.

JOHN: I realize there are other ways to support the missions effort, and your message is the most important and rewarding investment we can make. Please forgive me for putting the things of the world ahead of you.

CASEY: ......and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

ALL:.....go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
